In a Group L fixture of the 2026 FIFA World Cup held at Toronto Stadium, Ghana secured a narrow 1–0 victory over Panama in a tightly contested encounter.
Under the guidance of Portuguese head coach Carlos Queiroz, who was appointed to lead the Black Stars ahead of the tournament, Ghana struggled at times to impose control and allowed Panama several promising opportunities throughout the match. Despite this, Ghana remained resilient and disciplined defensively.
The decisive moment arrived deep into stoppage time, in the 90+5th minute, when a quick break orchestrated by Baron Thomas Asante created space for a final attacking move. The play was finished clinically by Caleb Yirenkye, who calmly converted to seal all three points for Ghana.
With this late victory, Ghana climbed to second place in Group L, sitting just behind England in the standings and keeping their qualification hopes firmly on track.
