FIFA will introduce championship rings for the winners of Sunday’s World Cup final between Argentina and Spain, bringing a tradition common in American sports to football’s biggest tournament.
Thirty rings will be made available for the world champions, while a further 1,996 rings will be sold to fans. Each ring will feature a miniature World Cup trophy as part of its design, along with a special engraving on the band.
The move marks a new tradition for the FIFA World Cup, giving the champions a symbolic piece of memorabilia alongside the famous trophy.
