The final match of the first round of the 2026 FIFA World Cup group stage, like the opening match of the round, was held in Mexico City. It was a Group L encounter between Colombia and Uzbekistan, where Los Cafeteros secured a 2–1 victory.
Colombia dominated possession and control from the beginning. In the first half, after creating several chances, they finally broke the deadlock in the 40th minute when Daniel Muñoz finished a move set up by Luis Díaz.

Although Colombia started the second half strongly as well, Uzbekistan managed to equalize against the run of play through Abbosbek Fayzullaev, who scored with a close-range header.
However, Colombia quickly responded in their push to regain the lead, and Luis Díaz scored again in the 65th minute to restore their advantage. While Uzbekistan were still pushing for an equalizer, Jaminton Campaz struck in the 90+9th minute to make Colombia’s win even more emphatic.
With this win, Colombia became the first team in Group L to collect three points and moved to the top of the standings.
