Diego Simeone was visibly frustrated following Atletico Madrid's 2-1 defeat to Liverpool in their Champions League opener, as reflected in his post-match comments to Movistar.
On his players' performance, Simeone said: "I am leaving happy with the game. The boys gave everything. They gave themselves completely. They had an important first half, and in the second half they found the goal. We looked for alternatives, but we didn't have the clarity to attack in the way we did in the first half. We lost against a strong opponent who knew how to take advantage of the chances they had."
On Atletico's build-up play, Simeone said: "It's part of the course of the game. At times it worked well, at times it didn't. They recovered the ball for the 1-1, and we could have dealt with that better. This helps us to keep growing. We need to work. There is no other way. The team needs to adjust important details. There are too many goals. Two today, three in Bilbao, one against Sevilla, two against Villarreal... We have to adjust the defensive side because we are not defending as well as we are capable of defending."
On the mistakes that led to the goals, Simeone said: "The goals come from mistakes. All teams take advantage of the mistakes of their opponents."
