LaLiga to introduce post-match referee interviews for the first time

LaLiga and the CTA are taking another step towards greater transparency, with referees set to speak to broadcasters after matches for the first time in Spanish football, starting this weekend.

LaLiga broadcasts have introduced a major new feature this season: for the first time, referees have been interviewed ahead of matches. The initiative, driven by the Technical Committee of Referees (CTA), has been gradually rolled out over recent weeks, with interviews conducted by journalists from the broadcasters holding the league’s media rights.

Now, LaLiga and the CTA are taking things a step further. In addition to pre-match interviews, viewers will also be able to hear directly from referees after games. This will be a historic first for Spanish football, with the initiative set to begin this very weekend, when at least two referees are expected to speak after their matches.

According to DAZN, one of the fixtures featuring a post-match interview with the referee will be the Basque derby. Following Sunday’s clash between Athletic Club and Real Sociedad, kicking off at 9pm at San Mamés, the match referee will address the media.
