Enrique admits PSG were lucky to beat Manchester City

Luis Enrique hailed PSG’s attitude and commitment after their hard-fought 4-2 win over Manchester City, admitting his side were fortunate to avoid conceding more goals despite leading 3-0 at half-time.

Luis Enrique admitted that PSG had to fight hard for their 4-2 victory over Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium, despite going into half-time with a commanding 3-0 lead.

“It was a great start to the game. We scored three goals, and you think the match is already decided, but it wasn’t. We had problems,” the PSG head coach said after the final whistle.

Enrique praised Manchester City’s response and highlighted the quality of their performance.

“It’s incredible how well Maresca’s team plays. We like playing these kinds of matches. What I liked most about my team was our attitude and commitment. We never stopped, even after scoring three goals,” he explained.

The Spanish coach also acknowledged that PSG had been fortunate to secure the win, admitting that his side could have conceded more goals.

“We were lucky. We were fortunate because we could have conceded more goals,” Enrique conceded.

Asked whether PSG had sent a message to the rest of Europe with the victory, following their success in the last two Champions League campaigns, Enrique played down the significance of the result.

“No. What message? The message is simple: the team that wins the Champions League is the one that matters. Being the best at this stage of the competition is not important,” he concluded.
