Vinicius handed four-match suspension and set to miss El Clasico

Vinicius has been banned for four matches following his red card and protests against the referee in Real Madrid’s clash with Villarreal. The club will appeal the decision, while Konaté’s yellow card has been overturned.

The Spanish Football Federation’s Disciplinary Committee has handed Vinicius a four-match suspension following his straight red card against Villarreal for pulling Saliba’s hair and his subsequent protests toward the referee.

The Brazilian has been banned for two matches for “acting violently away from play, when not in a position to challenge for the ball or when play was stopped,” along with additional fines under Article 52 of the Disciplinary Code, as stipulated in Article 130.2, according to the committee’s ruling.

He has also received an additional two-match suspension for “protesting against the referee, assistant referee or fourth official,” with further fines under Article 52 of the Disciplinary Code, pursuant to Article 127.

As a result, Vinicius will miss El Clásico as well as Real Madrid’s matches against Sevilla, Racing and Valencia. He will not return to LaLiga action until after the November international break.

Real Madrid had expected a three-match suspension rather than four and will appeal the decision to the Appeals Committee. The club had already submitted an appeal to the Disciplinary Committee before the punishment was announced, but its arguments were rejected, and Vinicius was handed the full four-match ban.

However, Real Madrid were successful in their appeal against the yellow card Konaté received against Villarreal, which had put his availability for El Clásico at risk. The Disciplinary Committee upheld the club’s appeal and overturned the French defender’s booking.

Meanwhile, Real Madrid goalkeeping coach Nuno Santos has also been handed a one-match suspension following his dismissal during the Villarreal match.
