After securing a place in the semifinals for Bayern Munich, their coach, Vincent Kompany, stated that his team had “deserved to go through the tie,” as they won both legs in two “completely thrilling” matches.
He then went on to analyze the reasons for the victory from a more tactical perspective:
“We had a lot of possession and always felt that we could score. But Real Madrid is Real Madrid. They are always a threat.”
Finally, he took the opportunity to praise his players, who—after a great effort—managed to eliminate Real Madrid, a team that in the Champions League is always the one to beat.
“The players showed great mental strength today to recover from setbacks. The fans also helped us. We stayed calm and knew our moment in the match would come, and that we would take advantage of it,” concluded the Belgian coach.
In the semifinals, Bayern will face another top coach, Luis Enrique, and his PSG side, who will defend their title in what promises to be another exciting tie in this edition of the Champions League.
