After Real Madrid’s 4-1 victory over Sevilla and the controversy surrounding the decision not to send off Arda Güler following his altercation with Peque, José Mourinho attended the post-match press conference. After spending so much time speaking out about referees, this time he was noticeably less forceful in his comments.
“Nobody has been able to show me what they claim happened. I haven’t seen any footage, and I haven’t been able to find it. I asked the television broadcasters and the analysts for footage, but I couldn’t find any images of the incidents people are talking about and which have upset Sevilla.
“I’m saying this with complete honesty. If something happens one day that I believe has benefited us, I’ll have absolutely no problem coming out and saying so. But I think the opposite will happen to us many times, because that’s the natural tendency of things. If any footage emerges between now and El Clásico, I’d like to see it.”
Regarding the performance on the pitch, Mourinho said he was pleased with the match.
“We dominated the game for long periods against a good team, and we played well. I think it was a great victory,” the coach began.
Asked about Luis García Plaza’s earlier comments, in which he claimed the referee should have sent Güler off, the Portuguese manager replied: “I’m not commenting on that.”
Mourinho also received praise for his tactical adjustments involving Valverde and Diomande.
“There are a lot of players who deserve to play but don’t even get off the bench. Today, we had more control of the game, and I think it was a good performance,” he concluded.
