Flick hails Yamal as the best player in the world

The Barcelona boss praises Yamal’s incredible performance, reflects on the victory over Betis and looks ahead to Tuesday’s clash with PSG amid injury concerns.

FC Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick was unable to provide further details about the physical condition of Eric Garcia and Gerard Martín, both of whom were substituted due to physical problems during the match against Betis.

“For now, the most important thing is to recover. Recovery is very important, and we need to see how we manage the minutes on Tuesday. We’ll see; we’ll find 11 players. We don’t know what will happen with Eric. Koundé has some minor issues, and Gerard does too, so we’ll have to wait and see. We have two more days, and we’ll see what happens on Tuesday. We have to wait for the medical results,” Flick said when asked about the situation.

Regarding Eric Garcia, he provided a little more detail, explaining that “he thinks it’s just a knock, but we have to wait until tomorrow.”

Flick was once again full of praise for Lamine Yamal, making it clear that “when you see the first goal he scored, it’s incredible. Right now, he’s the best player in the world. I’m very happy with his performance, and that’s what I want to say. Of course, he’s under pressure. He’s 19 years old and has played in every match, but he’s 100% focused and committed, and he’s very good. His performance has been incredible, as has his attitude. That’s what great players are like.”

He also explained the decision to substitute Yamal, saying: “With the scoreline as it was, we had to take him off. That was clear, and I told him I was very proud of him because he had played a fantastic match.”

Flick expressed his satisfaction with the team's performance against Betis.

“It wasn’t an easy match; we already knew that. Betis were fantastic in terms of their speed and intensity, but we also played very well and deserved the victory,” he said.

He added: “It was a very intense match, incredible for the fans and for people who love football.”

The German coach also commented on the team’s current form, saying: “Everyone is performing at their best, and that’s what I say at every press conference because I see it every day. The most important thing is that they train at the highest level, and they’re doing that.

“Now we have PSG on Tuesday, so we’ll need to recover properly and see how we manage the minutes. But for us, today’s victory is incredible.”

Flick also highlighted the team's work on set pieces and their effectiveness during matches.

“It’s important to have that strength from set pieces. I’m happy that we scored the second goal before half-time; it was important. We work on these situations, and Heiko Westermann and Dela [De la Fuente] are doing a good job.”

Flick said he was pleased with Barcelona’s record number of victories but emphasized that the team has greater ambitions.

“It’s nice to break records, but we want to win titles and achieve bigger things. That’s why we play football.”
