Jorge Messi, father of Lionel Messi, died last night at the age of 68 in a medical center in Rosario, Argentina, after a long illness, according to Infobae. He was not only Lionel’s father but also his longtime representative and a key figure throughout his son’s remarkable football career.
Jorge played an important role from Lionel’s early days at Newell’s Old Boys, helping secure the medical treatment his son needed before later moving with him to Barcelona as Lionel began his European journey. Despite being a constant presence in his son’s life, Jorge largely stayed out of the spotlight and rarely gave interviews, preferring to quietly support Lionel and his family.
He was also a familiar presence alongside the Messi family at World Cups. His absence from images of the family in the United States during the World Cup had previously drawn attention, apart from Antonela Roccuzzo and their children, Thiago, Mateo and Ciro.
