Kevin Keegan, one of England’s greatest football icons, has died at the age of 75 after a battle with stage four cancer. The former England player and manager passed away surrounded by his family.
Keegan enjoyed a legendary playing career, winning the Ballon d’Or twice in 1978 and 1979, becoming one of the few English players to achieve the honour. He won three First Division titles, the European Cup, the FA Cup and two UEFA Cups with Liverpool, before leading Hamburg to the Bundesliga title.
After retiring as a player, Keegan became a successful manager, most notably guiding Newcastle United from a struggling side to Premier League contenders. He came close to winning the league title in the 1995/96 season, when Newcastle finished runners-up after a memorable title race with Manchester United.
