Goalkeeper Jesus Owono has broken his silence following the tragic death of footballer Jesus de Miguel, who passed away in hospital on Tuesday after a horrific collision during a football match.
The incident occurred while Owono was playing for FC Andorra against CD Tenerife. The goalkeeper rushed out of his penalty area towards the halfway line in an attempt to clear the ball, but collided heavily with De Miguel.
Following the impact, De Miguel collapsed on the pitch and was immediately rushed to hospital. Sadly, his death was confirmed on Tuesday morning.
Owono later released an emotional statement through his club, expressing his heartbreak over the incident and the loss of his fellow footballer.
“These have been the most difficult days of my life.
I'm struggling to find the words to describe how I feel, and it's incredibly difficult to process everything that has happened.
I feel an immense amount of pain following the loss of Jesus. My thoughts are with him, his family, and everyone who loved him.
I know there will be many things that need to be addressed, and I will face whatever comes with the utmost respect.
But right now, honestly, I cannot think about anything other than Jesus and the deep sadness we are all experiencing.
Rest in peace, Jesus.”
It has also been reported that De Miguel suffered a cardiac arrest while being transported to hospital. Paramedics managed to revive him after carrying out emergency resuscitation efforts.
