Hugo Ekitike will miss the upcoming World Cup after suffering a ruptured Achilles tendon during Liverpool FC’s Champions League match against Paris Saint-Germain on Tuesday.
The 23-year-old forward went down injured during the second leg of the quarter-final at Anfield. He pointed to his Achilles while receiving treatment from medical staff before being carried off on a stretcher.
Liverpool lost the match 2–0, resulting in a 4–0 aggregate defeat and elimination from the competition.
The French Football Federation has not yet commented on the injury.
Ekitike has scored 17 goals in all competitions this season since joining Liverpool from Eintracht Frankfurt last July.
The World Cup will take place in the United States, Mexico, and Canada from 11 June to 19 July.
