The French forward rejoins Leipzig on loan with an option to buy after a successful spell at the Bundesliga club between 2019 and 2023.

RB Leipzig have re-signed French forward Christopher Nkunku from AC Milan on a season-long loan deal with an option to buy, the Bundesliga club announced on Tuesday.

The 28-year-old returns to Leipzig, where he enjoyed a highly successful spell between 2019 and 2023. During his time at the club, Nkunku scored 70 goals, won two German Cups and finished as the Bundesliga's joint-top scorer in the 2022–23 season.

“Christopher has already shown the exceptional talent he possesses and his ability to make a real difference in games,” Leipzig managing director for sport Marcel Schäfer said in a statement.

Nkunku began his professional career at Paris Saint-Germain before joining Chelsea in 2023. His time at Stamford Bridge was disrupted by injuries, although he helped the Premier League side win the Conference League and the Club World Cup.

He moved to AC Milan last year and scored eight goals in 35 appearances during the 2025–26 season.

Nkunku has also earned 18 caps for the French national team.
