Chelsea have officially announced the signing of experienced striker Danny Welbeck from Brighton & Hove Albion on a contract running until 2028.
The 35-year-old forward arrives at Stamford Bridge after enjoying an impressive Premier League career spanning more than 400 appearances. Welbeck has also competed in the UEFA Champions League and represented England at two FIFA World Cups, bringing a wealth of experience to Xabi Alonso's squad ahead of the new season.
Welbeck began his professional career at Manchester United, where he developed under Sir Alex Ferguson. During his time at Old Trafford, he won the Premier League title, lifted the League Cup twice, claimed the Community Shield on two occasions, and was part of the squad that won the 2008 FIFA Club World Cup.
In September 2014, he joined Arsenal and spent five seasons in north London. He scored 32 goals in 126 appearances for the Gunners, helping the club win the FA Cup and Community Shield before moving on to Watford and later Brighton & Hove Albion.
At Brighton, Welbeck became one of the club's most reliable attacking players, making more than 200 appearances for the Seagulls. He remained a consistent Premier League goalscorer, finding the net 26 times across the last two league campaigns.
On the international stage, Welbeck earned 42 caps for England and scored 16 goals during an eight-year spell with the national team. He represented the Three Lions at UEFA Euro 2012 and featured in two FIFA World Cup tournaments.
Chelsea also confirmed that Welbeck will join Xabi Alonso's squad during the club's pre-season tour as preparations continue for the 2026/27 campaign.
