Messi’s sensational Newell’s Old Boys return rumours dismissed

Reports from Argentina suggested that Newell’s Old Boys are pushing to bring Lionel Messi back to his boyhood club, with journalist Gonzalo Calvigioni claiming a potential move could happen as early as January 2027.

However, Fabrizio Romano has played down the speculation, stating that Messi has no plans to return to Newell’s at this stage and remains fully focused on Inter Miami.

Messi is under contract with the MLS side until December 2028 and intends to continue there until then, with any decision about his future beyond that date to be made later.

A return to Rosario may be a dream for Newell’s fans, but for now, Messi’s focus remains firmly on Miami.
