Aston Villa complete historic signing of Zion Suzuki from Parma

Aston Villa have officially completed the permanent signing of Japanese goalkeeper Zion Suzuki from Serie A club Parma, bringing one of Europe’s most promising young goalkeepers to Villa Park after his impressive rise at both club and international level.

Aston Villa have confirmed the permanent arrival of Zion Suzuki from Parma, strengthening their goalkeeping options with one of the brightest prospects in world football.

The Japan international joins Villa after gaining valuable experience in European football and representing his country on the biggest stage, including the 2026 FIFA World Cup. His arrival marks a significant statement of ambition from Villa’s recruitment team, who have secured the services of a highly rated young talent.

Born in the United States and raised in Urawa, Japan, Suzuki began his professional career with Urawa Red Diamonds, making his first-team debut at just 16 years old. After a short spell in Belgium with Sint-Truiden, he continued his development in Italy with Parma, where his performances helped establish him as one of the most exciting young goalkeepers in Europe.

His rapid progression at club level, combined with his international experience, has earned him a move to the Premier League and a new challenge at Aston Villa.

Suzuki also makes history as the first Japanese and Asian player to join Aston Villa. His move further highlights the growing influence of Japanese footballers in English football, following the success of players such as Wataru Endo at Liverpool, Daichi Kamada at Crystal Palace, Kaoru Mitoma at Brighton & Hove Albion, and Ao Tanaka at Leeds United.

With his talent, experience and potential, Suzuki’s arrival represents another important step in his development and adds further quality to Aston Villa’s squad ahead of the new season.
