Arsenal are delighted to announce the signing of Brazil international Bruno Guimarães from Newcastle United on a long-term contract.
The 28-year-old midfielder joins the Gunners after establishing himself as one of the Premier League’s most influential midfielders.
Guimarães began his professional career in Brazil with Audax in 2015 before moving to Athletico Paranaense in 2017. During his time with the club, he developed into one of Brazil’s brightest young midfield talents, helping Athletico win four major trophies.
In January 2020, Bruno moved to French side Lyon, where he continued to enhance his reputation as one of Europe’s leading midfielders during two impressive seasons in Ligue 1.
Guimarães joined Newcastle United in January 2022 and made nearly 200 appearances for the club over four-and-a-half seasons. A commanding presence in midfield, he played a key role in Newcastle’s Carabao Cup triumph in 2025 and helped the club secure UEFA Champions League qualification on two occasions.
At international level, Guimarães has earned 48 caps for Brazil and has represented his country at the highest level. He was part of Brazil’s squad at the FIFA World Cup and has also featured in the Copa América. He won an Olympic gold medal with Brazil at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.

Arsenal Sporting Director Andrea Berta said: “We are delighted to welcome Bruno Guimarães to Arsenal.
“Bruno is a player with an outstanding mentality and exceptional quality. He will bring leadership, energy and experience to our squad.
“His ability to operate both as a defensive midfielder and as a box-to-box player gives us greater flexibility and quality in the heart of the team. He consistently combines technical ability with intensity and has contributed goals and assists throughout his career.
“Bruno’s arrival will allow Mikel to continue developing our style of play while increasing competition within the squad, which is essential as we strive to compete for and win major trophies.”
Guimarães will wear the number 39 shirt at Arsenal and will join up with his new teammates immediately.
Everyone at Arsenal warmly welcomes Bruno and his family to the club.
The transfer is subject to the completion of regulatory processes.
