Spain goalkeeper Unai Simón has set a new FIFA World Cup record for the longest streak without conceding a goal, surpassing a mark that had stood since 1990.
After keeping another clean sheet, Simón extended his goalless run to 519 consecutive minutes, overtaking Walter Zenga’s previous record of 517 minutes, which the Italian goalkeeper established during the 1990 World Cup.
With this achievement, Simón now tops the all-time World Cup clean-sheet streak rankings, while Peter Shilton sits third with 501 minutes, accumulated across the 1982 and 1986 tournaments.
The last player to score against Simón at a World Cup was Japan’s Ao Tanaka, who found the net in Spain’s final group-stage match at the 2022 tournament.
