European football will pause ahead of all 18 UEFA Champions League matches this week to pay tribute to those who lost their lives in the recent floods and landslides in Nepal.
UEFA announced on Monday that a moment of silence will be observed before every match, accompanied by a banner reading: “You are not alone Nepal.”
“We wish them strength and resilience as they continue to recover from this tragedy and its aftermath,” UEFA President Aleksander Čeferin said.
UEFA has previously shown solidarity with victims of natural disasters outside Europe, including those affected by the earthquake in Morocco and the devastating floods in Libya in 2023.
The Champions League action begins on Tuesday with six matches, including Real Madrid’s home game against Inter Milan, followed by six matches each on Wednesday and Thursday.
