UEFA has officially announced the venues for the 2028 and 2029 Champions League finals, with two of Europe’s most iconic stadiums set to host the continent’s biggest club football event.
The 2028 Champions League final will take place at the Munich Football Arena, while Barcelona’s Spotify Camp Nou has been selected to stage the 2029 final.
Iconic stadiums chosen for future Champions League finals
The decision brings the Champions League final back to two of European football’s most historic venues.
Munich’s Allianz Arena has considerable experience hosting the competition’s showpiece event. The stadium previously staged the Champions League final in 2012 and 2025, making the 2028 edition its third final.
For Barcelona, the 2029 final will mark the return of the Champions League’s biggest match to Camp Nou after three decades. The stadium last hosted the final in 1999, when Manchester United produced a dramatic late comeback to defeat Bayern Munich 2-1 and win their second European Cup.
Camp Nou redevelopment adds an extra challenge
While Munich’s 70,000-capacity Allianz Arena is already fully operational, Barcelona still has work to complete before Camp Nou can host the 2029 final.
The historic stadium has been undergoing a major redevelopment project since 2023. Barcelona returned to the venue in November after a two-year absence, but construction work is still ongoing.
Camp Nou currently has a restricted capacity of around 62,000 spectators, while the third tier remains unfinished and the stadium roof has yet to be completed.
The renovated stadium is expected to have a capacity of approximately 105,000, making it one of the largest football stadiums in Europe. Barcelona expects the redevelopment to be completed by late 2027 or, at the latest, early 2028.
UEFA confirms other European final venues
UEFA has also finalized the locations for several other major European club competition finals in 2028 and 2029.
The 2028 Women’s Champions League final will be played at Parc Olympique Lyonnais in France, while the 2029 final will take place at the National Stadium of Wales in Cardiff.
The Europa League will also visit major stadiums in Eastern Europe. The 2028 final is scheduled for Bucharest’s National Arena, with Belgrade’s National Stadium Serbia hosting the 2029 showpiece.
Meanwhile, the 2028 Conference League final will be held at Juventus Stadium in Turin, followed by the 2029 final at Budapest’s Puskás Arena.
With these decisions, UEFA has now mapped out the locations for several of European football’s most important finals over the next few seasons.
