Ten-man Manchester United suffer defeat against Atletico Madrid in the Spanish capital

Atlético Madrid secure a 2-0 win over Manchester United, who saw Leny Yoro sent off in the second half.

Atlético Madrid claimed an impressive 2–0 victory over Manchester United at the Riyadh Air Metropolitano in Madrid, delivering one of the standout results of the evening.

The hosts made a flying start, with Pablo Barrios opening the scoring in the first minute to catch the Red Devils off guard. Atlético maintained control for much of the opening half, although Manchester United threatened on the counterattack, particularly through Bryan Mbeumo.

Atlético appeared to double their advantage in the 43rd minute when Johnny Cardoso found the net. However, following a VAR review, the goal was disallowed due to a handball by Marcos Llorente in the build-up.

Early in the second half, Julián Álvarez struck the post with a powerful effort, narrowly missing the opportunity to extend Atlético’s lead. Manchester United responded with chances of their own, as Bruno Fernandes sent an effort narrowly wide before coming agonisingly close to equalising in the 70th minute, only to see his long-range strike crash against the post.

United’s hopes suffered another setback in the 74th minute when Leny Yoro was sent off following a VAR review, leaving the visitors with a numerical disadvantage. Atlético capitalised on the situation five minutes later, with Ademola Lookman scoring in the 79th minute to seal the hosts’ 2–0 victory.

The result reflected Atlético Madrid’s clinical finishing and effective game management, while Manchester United were left to rue their missed opportunities and costly disciplinary setback.
