Sweden began their 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign in emphatic fashion with a 5-1 victory over Tunisia in Group F at Monterrey Stadium in Mexico, delivering a statement performance under Graham Potter.
Despite a disappointing qualifying campaign, Sweden looked transformed on the biggest stage and controlled the match from the opening stages. Yasin Ayari opened the scoring in the 7th minute, before Alexander Isak doubled the lead in the 30th minute.
Victor Gyökeres extended the advantage shortly after the hour mark in the 59th minute, and Mattias Svanberg added a fourth in the 86th minute. Ayari then struck again deep into stoppage time (90+6) to complete his brace and seal a comprehensive win.

Tunisia managed a late consolation but were ultimately outclassed by a clinical Swedish side.
With this result, Sweden move top of Group F, ahead of the Netherlands and Japan, who drew 2-2 in their opening fixture.
