Atlanta Stadium hosted one of the most important Group H matches of the 2026 FIFA World Cup as Spain cruised to a commanding 4–0 victory over Saudi Arabia.
After being held to a surprising draw by Cape Verde in their opening match, La Roja responded emphatically. Spain took the lead in the 10th minute when Lamine Yamal converted a pass from Mikel Oyarzabal, scoring both Spain’s first goal of the tournament and his maiden World Cup goal. Oyarzabal then doubled Spain’s advantage in the 21st minute, finding the net amid a crowded Saudi penalty area.
Just three minutes later, Oyarzabal struck again, finishing off a superb team move to make it 3–0. The Spanish forward nearly completed his hat-trick in the 36th minute, but his left-footed effort struck the woodwork. Although Saudi Arabia gradually recovered from the early shock, the first half ended with Spain firmly in control at 3–0.

The second half began much like the first, with Spain coming out at full throttle. In the 49th minute, Marc Cucurella fired a close-range left-footed shot that was initially saved by the goalkeeper, but the rebound deflected off Hassan Al Tambakti and into the net for an own goal.
Following the fourth goal, Spain eased off the intensity, while Saudi Arabia managed to avoid further damage and prevent an even heavier defeat. In the second minute of stoppage time, Ferran Torres appeared to score Spain’s fifth goal, but after a VAR review, the goal was disallowed.
The victory moves Spain to four points and the top of Group H, putting them in a strong position to secure qualification for the knockout stage.
