Newcastle United have secured the signing of Nico Gonzalez from Manchester City in a deal that could rise to £50 million with add-ons, with the midfielder set to wear the No 6 shirt at St James’ Park.
The 24-year-old Spanish midfielder said goodbye to his Manchester City teammates on Tuesday morning before travelling to Newcastle, where he completed his medical on Wednesday. Gonzalez was then introduced to the club’s supporters ahead of Newcastle’s Carabao Cup clash with West Brom.
The move marks Matthias Jaissle’s second signing as Newcastle head coach, following the arrival of Amar Dedic last week.
Gonzalez joined Manchester City from Porto in February 2025 and made 59 appearances for the club, scoring four goals. The former Spain Under-21 international now begins a new chapter at Newcastle as part of Jaissle’s squad rebuild.
