Kylian Mbappé remains confident of his chances of winning the Ballon d’Or after an impressive individual campaign with Real Madrid and France.
The 27-year-old finished as the top scorer in La Liga, the Champions League and the World Cup last season, although he ended the campaign without a major trophy.
France were eliminated in the World Cup semi-finals, while Real Madrid finished second in La Liga and were knocked out of the Champions League by Bayern Munich in the quarter-finals.
Speaking to French radio station RFI, Mbappé highlighted the importance of individual performances when it comes to the Ballon d’Or.
“They won't announce a team in the envelope, they will announce a player,” Mbappé said.
“The ability to perform individually and produce eye-catching moments, that's what stands out to people for an award like this.
“I was top scorer in all the biggest competitions and I think that this could be a good year for me, and I really feel it.”
Mbappé scored 25 goals in La Liga, 15 in the Champions League and 10 at the World Cup last season. His 22 World Cup goals also made him the competition’s all-time leading scorer.
However, he faces strong competition for the Ballon d’Or from several players who enjoyed major team success in 2026.
Lamine Yamal and Ferran Torres won La Liga with Barcelona and the World Cup with Spain, while Paris Saint-Germain duo Ousmane Dembélé and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia won both Ligue 1 and the Champions League. Harry Kane also lifted the Bundesliga title with Bayern Munich.
The Ballon d’Or ceremony will take place in London on October 26.
