Roberto Mancini, has left Al Sadd, the Qatar Stars League champions confirmed on Saturday.
The former Italy boss is widely tipped to take over the national team job once again after a spell abroad.
Mancini led Italy to glory at Euro 2020 but later endured mixed results, including an unsuccessful stint with Saudi Arabia’s national team. He joined Al Sadd on a contract running until 2027 following that period.
Italian reports say he is now the leading candidate to replace the current setup, as Italy look to rebuild momentum after missing out on qualification for a third consecutive World Cup.
Gennaro Gattuso previously left the role following a World Cup qualifying defeat to Bosnia & Herzegovina, with Silvio Baldini stepping in temporarily from his position with the under-21 side.
Despite winning the domestic Qatar Stars League title, Al Sadd fell short in continental and cup competitions, failing to reach the AFC Champions League Elite semi-finals and losing in the Qatar Cup final.
