Lionel Messi reached another historic milestone on Wednesday night, scoring the 100th goal of his Inter Miami career as the club defeated Cruz Azul 2-0 in the Campeones Cup final.
Messi opened the scoring in the 24th minute, heading in a cross from Luis Suárez to mark his 100th goal in 115 appearances for Inter Miami across all competitions.
The landmark goal came against the same opponent Messi faced when he scored his first goal for the club. In his Inter Miami debut in July 2023, the Argentine superstar found the net with a stoppage-time free kick against Cruz Azul to secure a 2-1 victory.
Brazilian midfielder Casemiro added Inter Miami’s second goal in the 81st minute, heading home a corner delivered by Messi to seal the trophy for the MLS side.
Casemiro has been in impressive scoring form recently, with all four of his goals coming via headers in his last five matches. The midfielder previously scored in three consecutive games against CF Montreal, Atlanta United and Chicago before being held without a goal against Nashville.
The Campeones Cup triumph adds another trophy to Inter Miami’s growing collection since Messi joined the club in 2023. Miami previously won the Leagues Cup in 2023, the Supporters’ Shield in 2024 and the MLS Cup in 2025.
With his latest milestone, Messi continues to add to his remarkable legacy while playing a central role in Inter Miami’s rise on the North American soccer stage.
