Robert Lewandowski marked his home debut for Chicago Fire in style, scoring twice to inspire a 2-1 victory over Charlotte FC on Saturday.
The Polish striker, who joined Chicago on a two-year contract after leaving Barcelona, canceled out Charlotte's early advantage in the 20th minute with a powerful long-range strike.
Lewandowski completed his brace in the 68th minute, calmly placing his shot into the bottom-left corner to secure all three points for the Fire, who improved to 9-6-2 while playing their first home fixture in more than two months.
The 36-year-old had made his first appearance for Chicago as a substitute in last week's 3-1 away defeat to New York City FC.
Charlotte opened the scoring through Pep Biel, whose right-footed finish from inside the area came after a well-worked assist from Idan Toklomati.
The visitors pressed for a late equalizer and even earned a corner kick deep into stoppage time, but Chicago's defense stood firm to protect its narrow lead.
Charlotte had entered the match unbeaten in its previous two outings but suffered its third consecutive defeat against Chicago Fire.
