LA Galaxy have officially announced the signing of former Barcelona midfielder Sergi Roberto.
The MLS club announced on Saturday that Roberto has signed a two-year contract, with an option for a third season.
Roberto spent 18 years at Barcelona, his boyhood club, before joining Italian side Como, where he played for the past two seasons under manager Cesc Fabregas.
"Sergi brings a combination of leadership, technical quality, tactical intelligence, and championship experience that few players have," Will Kuntz, general manager of LA Galaxy, said.
"He has been a key member of some of the greatest teams of his generation and understands not only what it takes to win, but what it means to be a winning team. Sergi's character, positional versatility, and leadership will be invaluable, and we are excited to welcome him and his family to the LA Galaxy."
Roberto made 373 first-team appearances for Barcelona, scoring 19 goals, and captained the club during the 2023-24 season. During his time at Barcelona, he won seven La Liga titles, six Copa del Rey trophies, six Spanish Super Cups, two UEFA Champions League titles, two FIFA Club World Cups, and two UEFA Super Cups.
He will also be remembered for his iconic 2017 goal against Paris Saint-Germain, which completed Barcelona's legendary 6-1 comeback in one of the greatest Champions League comebacks of all time.
Roberto earned 11 caps for Spain and scored one goal for the national team.
In Los Angeles, he will reunite with former Barcelona teammate Riqui Puig.
