Germany and Greece played out a goalless draw in an intense and occasionally heated Nations League encounter in Thessaloniki.
Jürgen Klopp said he was pleased with Germany’s performance, particularly given that the squad had only been together for a week. He praised the team’s movement, overall approach and collective defending, while acknowledging that their performance became less consistent after the hour mark.
“I’m very pleased, especially because I know where we’ve come from. After just one week together, I wouldn’t have expected us to produce a first half like that. The boys put in a top-class performance. Our football and movement were outstanding.
“From around the 60th minute, we became a little more unsettled and our movements weren’t quite as clear, but that’s not unusual. I’m very impressed with the team and the way we approached the game. Everyone has shown what they can do over these two weeks, and every player has justified their call-up.
“If we defend collectively like that, then the boys can really express themselves on the ball.”

Florian Wirtz, meanwhile, spoke about Germany’s inability to turn their dominance and pressure into a goal. The midfielder said the missed chances were frustrating but insisted there were still plenty of positives to take from the game.
“We put them under a lot of pressure, but we simply couldn’t find the goal. Of course, that’s frustrating. Overall, though, I think we can still be satisfied because there were a lot of positives. We also have to remember that we’ve only been together for a week.”
