The 2026–27 UEFA Nations League campaign got underway with several fixtures, with the headline clash in Amsterdam ending in a 1–1 draw between the Netherlands and Germany.
The Johan Cruyff Arena hosted a highly anticipated encounter as both sides began a new era under their respective head coaches, Jürgen Klopp and Xavi. The match produced plenty of drama, with Germany taking the lead before Cody Gakpo’s stoppage-time equaliser rescued a point for the hosts.

His saves continued until the final moments of the match, marking an impressive return between the posts at the stadium of his club, Ajax.
However, Germany’s resistance finally ended in the second minute of stoppage time. Cody Gakpo produced a spectacular finish to level the score at 1–1 and deny Germany victory in a dramatic finale in Amsterdam.
The draw ensured that neither side could claim all three points, but both teams showed plenty of promise as they began a new chapter under their new managers.
