Kansas City witnessed a historic occasion as Japan cruised to a commanding 4-0 victory over Tunisia in the 1,000th match in FIFA World Cup history at the 2026 World Cup.
Tunisia, who had already dismissed head coach Sabri Lamouchi after their opening game, failed to turn things around under new manager Hervé Renard. Japan wasted little time asserting their dominance, taking the lead in just the fourth minute through Daichi Kamada. Ayase Ueda doubled the advantage in the 31st minute, putting the Samurai Blue firmly in control before halftime.

Japan continued to dictate proceedings after the break and added a third goal in the 69th minute when Junya Ito fired a low strike into the net. Although Tunisia pushed forward in search of a response, they lacked the quality to threaten a comeback and were punished again in the 83rd minute, with Ueda heading home his second goal of the evening.
The convincing victory moved Japan onto four points and into second place in Group F, behind the Netherlands, while Tunisia's struggles continued in a difficult World Cup campaign.
