The Saudi Arabian Football Federation confirmed on Friday that Renard has been relieved of his duties with immediate effect, ending his second spell in charge of the national team. The move comes despite Saudi Arabia having already secured qualification for the World Cup.
Renard, who previously guided the team to a famous victory over Argentina during the 2022 FIFA World Cup, had returned to the role in 2024 with the aim of building a competitive squad for the upcoming global tournament.
However, a series of disappointing performances in recent international friendlies reportedly led to growing concerns within the federation over the team’s form and tactical direction. With the World Cup now less than two months away, officials opted for a late managerial change in hopes of revitalizing the squad.
The decision leaves Saudi Arabia in a race against time to appoint a new head coach and stabilize preparations ahead of football’s biggest stage. Further announcements regarding Renard’s successor are expected in the coming days.
