New York/New Jersey Stadium hosted the fourth match of Group I at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, where Norway defeated Senegal 3-2 to secure their place in the knockout stage.
Norway took the lead in the closing stages of the first half when Marcus Pedersen found the back of the net in the 43rd minute. The goal gave the Vikings a valuable advantage heading into the break and boosted their confidence for the second half.
After the restart, it was Erling Haaland who stole the spotlight. The Manchester City striker doubled Norway’s lead in the 49th minute, finishing a brilliant pass from Martin Ødegaard with a powerful strike into the roof of Édouard Mendy’s net.

Senegal responded in the 53rd minute through Ismaïla Sarr, who capitalized on a gap in the Norwegian defense to pull one back. However, Haaland restored Norway’s two-goal cushion just five minutes later, producing a stunning finish that flew into the top corner and left Mendy helpless.
The Lions of Teranga refused to give up and found another goal deep into stoppage time when Sarr scored his second of the match in the third minute of added time. Nevertheless, the late strike was not enough to prevent Senegal from falling to defeat.
With the victory, Norway confirmed their qualification for the next round. They will now face France in a decisive clash to determine the winner of Group I.
