Arsenal and FC Barcelona have reached an agreement for the transfer of Gabriel Jesus, with the Brazilian forward set to become a Barça player until 30 June 2029.
Born in São Paulo on 3 April 1997, Jesus began his footballing journey with Anhanguera before joining Palmeiras’ youth academy. He made his senior debut for the club in 2015 and quickly established himself as one of Brazil’s brightest young talents. He helped Palmeiras win the 2015 Copa do Brasil and the 2016 Brasileirão, while also being named the league’s best player in 2016.
His impressive performances earned him a move to Europe, with Manchester City signing the striker in the summer of 2016. During his time at the Etihad, Jesus made 236 appearances, scoring 95 goals and providing 45 assists. He won four Premier League titles, one FA Cup, four League Cups and two Community Shields with the Citizens.
In July 2022, Jesus joined Arsenal, where he went on to make 123 appearances, scoring 32 goals and registering 22 assists. After suffering an anterior cruciate ligament injury in January 2025, he returned to action in December and played a role in Arsenal’s 2025/26 Premier League title-winning campaign, scoring three goals in 14 appearances.
At international level, Jesus represented Brazil at youth level before helping the U20 side and the senior Olympic squad. He was part of the Brazil team that won gold at the 2016 Rio Olympics, scoring three goals during the tournament.
Jesus made his senior Brazil debut in September 2016 and went on to feature at the 2018 and 2022 FIFA World Cups. He was also part of Brazil’s squad that won the 2019 Copa América and featured in the 2021 edition of the tournament.
The move to Barcelona now marks the next chapter of Jesus’ career, as the Brazilian forward prepares to continue his career in La Liga.
