On Wednesday night, the 2025–26 UEFA Europa League season came to a dramatic conclusion as Aston Villa defeated Freiburg 3-0 in the final at Beşiktaş Stadium in Istanbul, securing the club’s first-ever Europa League crown in emphatic fashion.
Unai Emery’s side controlled the contest from the opening whistle and translated their superiority into two stunning first-half goals. Belgian midfielder Youri Tielemans broke the deadlock in the 41st minute, firing Morgan Rogers’ pass first-time into the corner beyond Freiburg goalkeeper Noah Atubolu.
Villa doubled their advantage deep into stoppage time before the break when Argentine playmaker Emiliano Buendía unleashed a spectacular strike in the 45+3rd minute, leaving Freiburg stunned heading into halftime.

The Birmingham side continued their dominance after the restart and effectively sealed the title in the 58th minute. This time Buendía turned provider, setting up Morgan Rogers for Villa’s third goal of the night.
Freiburg attempted to respond in the final stages, but Aston Villa remained dangerous on the counterattack and looked more likely to extend their lead than concede.
The final marked the first Europa League final appearance for both clubs, but it was Aston Villa who rose to the occasion to celebrate a historic triumph. The English side, previously crowned champions of Europe in 1982, have now lifted another major continental trophy for the first time in 44 years.
