Valencia stand to receive more than €1 million if Ferran Torres completes a €50 million move from Barcelona to PSG, thanks to FIFA’s solidarity mechanism for training clubs.
If there is one club closely following Ferran Torres’ potential move from FC Barcelona to PSG, it is Valencia. Should the transfer go through, the Spanish club would receive a significant sum thanks to FIFA’s solidarity mechanism, which rewards clubs involved in a player’s development.
Valencia is the club where Torres grew up and developed as a player before going on to score Spain’s historic second goal at the 2022 World Cup. Torres joined Valencia’s academy as a child and remained with the club until the age of 20. In fact, he signed his first professional contract at just 17.
FIFA’s solidarity mechanism applies to all clubs where a player was registered between the ages of 12 and 23. A total of 5% of the transfer fee is distributed among the clubs that contributed to the player’s development. For the years between ages 12 and 15, clubs receive 0.25% of the transfer fee for each year, while the percentage rises to 0.5% per year from ages 16 to 23.
If Torres’ transfer is completed for €50 million, Valencia would receive more than €1 million. The club would collect around €500,000 for the four years between ages 12 and 15, plus approximately €750,000 for the period up to age 18, when Torres left Valencia for Manchester City.
Once confirmed, the payment would provide a significant financial boost for Valencia, particularly as the club continues to navigate a challenging transfer market.
