England became the third team to book a place in the 2026 FIFA World Cup semi-finals after a hard-fought 2-1 extra-time victory over Norway at Miami Stadium.
England dominated possession from the opening whistle, patiently searching for openings against Norway's well-organized defense. Despite controlling the game, the Three Lions struggled to create clear-cut chances.
Norway gradually grew into the contest and broke the deadlock in the 36th minute following a controversial challenge involving Harry Kane that England believed should have been called a foul. Moments later, Mathias Schjelderup struck what appeared to be a cross that clipped the post before finding the back of the net.

England responded in first-half stoppage time with a beautifully worked team move. Anthony Gordon provided the final pass for Jude Bellingham, who calmly fired a left-footed shot into the bottom corner in the second minute of added time to level the score at 1-1. Harry Kane also found the net shortly afterward, but his effort was ruled out for offside.

The second half was played at a much higher tempo. Erling Haaland tested Jordan Pickford with a powerful header in the 52nd minute, while Norway thought they had restored their lead three minutes later when Torbjørn Heggem scored from close range. However, the goal was disallowed after VAR identified a foul by Haaland in the build-up.
Norway came close again in the 76th minute as Kristoffer Ajer headed Fredrik Aursnes' cross onto the crossbar. England pushed for a late winner, but Norway's resilient defense forced the match into extra time.

The decisive moment arrived early in the first period of extra time. Morgan Rogers' shot was only partially saved by goalkeeper Ørjan Nyland, allowing Bellingham to react quickest and score his second goal of the night, giving England a 2-1 lead.
England were briefly awarded a penalty after Jed Spence went down in the box, but referee Clément Turpin overturned the decision following a VAR review.
Norway searched for an equalizer during the second period of extra time, even after head coach Ståle Solbakken surprisingly substituted Haaland. England, meanwhile, withdrew Bellingham as manager Thomas Tuchel looked to protect the lead. The Three Lions defended resolutely until the final whistle to secure their place in the semi-finals.
England will face the winner of Argentina vs. Switzerland in the World Cup semi-final, scheduled for Wednesday at Atlanta Stadium.
