Toronto Stadium hosted a Group L clash at the 2026 FIFA World Cup as Panama faced Croatia, with the Blazers claiming a narrow victory.
The first half was an evenly contested affair with very few clear-cut chances for either side. Remarkably, neither team managed to register a single shot on target during the opening 45 minutes.
Croatia began the second half with two substitutions, a decision that paid off quickly for Zlatko Dalić. In the 55th minute, a well-worked move down the right flank involving Josip Stanišić and Mario Pašalić opened up the Panama defense. Stanišić delivered a precise low cross into the box, allowing Ante Budimir to tap into an empty net just ten minutes after coming on as a substitute.
Three minutes later, Croatia came close to doubling their advantage on a swift counterattack. Luka Modrić produced a brilliant pass to send Pašalić through on goal, but the midfielder failed to beat the Panama goalkeeper with an attempted chip. Pašalić also had a second opportunity from the rebound, but his follow-up effort sailed over the crossbar.

Panama pushed forward in search of an equalizer and to avoid a second consecutive defeat in the tournament. However, they struggled to create meaningful opportunities against the Croatian defense, and the match ultimately ended with a 1-0 victory for Dalić's men.
Gabonese referee Pierre Atcho officiated the encounter and showed yellow cards to Panama's Yoel Bárcenas and Croatia's Petar Sučić.
Following the completion of the second round of Group L fixtures, England and Ghana occupy first and second place respectively with four points each. Croatia sit third on three points, while Panama remain bottom of the table without a point.
