Cristiano Ronaldo has left Portugal’s national team training camp shortly after head coach Jorge Jesus insisted that the forward would take part in Wednesday’s session.
According to Portuguese media, Ronaldo not only skipped training but also left the stadium in Copenhagen, Denmark, where Portugal are preparing for their upcoming fixtures.
The situation became even more intriguing after SIC Notícias reported that Ronaldo’s private jet was already on its way to Denmark, with a return flight to Madrid scheduled for later tonight.
Ronaldo was an unused substitute in Portugal’s last match, remaining on the bench for the full 90 minutes. He had also missed training on Monday and Tuesday, but Jorge Jesus initially played down the situation.
The Portugal coach said Ronaldo does not usually train on the first or second day after a match, before adding: “Do you think any player on the national team would refuse to train?”
However, events on Wednesday appeared to contradict the expectation that Ronaldo would return to training. Once on the pitch, Jesus was caught on camera acknowledging the tension, saying: “Cristiano is upset with me.”
There has been no official explanation for Ronaldo’s absence so far, leaving questions surrounding his situation with the Portugal national team.
