Canada, one of the hosts of the 2026 World Cup, delivered a stunning performance as they moved from Toronto in the east to Vancouver in the west for their second match. At BC Place, they faced Qatar, the 2022 World Cup hosts, in a game that ended in a surprising and one-sided 6–0 victory for Canada.
Canada dominated the match completely, registering 32 shots in total, including 10 on target, all of which resulted in goals for the home side. Kyle Larin, who also scored in the opening match, opened the scoring in the 16th minute.
Jonathan David then doubled the lead in the 29th minute with a spectacular strike. Qatar were reduced to ten men in the 33rd minute after Homam Al-Amin was sent off following a VAR review.
Just before halftime, David struck again in the 3rd minute of added time (45+3), heading in his second goal to make it 3–0.
In the second half, Qatar suffered another setback when Assim Madibo received a straight red card for a dangerous foul on Ismaël Koné, an incident that resulted in a serious injury to the Canadian player.

Canada continued their dominance, with Nathan Saliba scoring a beautiful free-kick in the 64th minute to extend the lead to 4–0. In the 75th minute, Qatari defender Mohammed Al-Munay accidentally turned the ball into his own net, adding a fifth goal for Canada.
Jonathan David completed his hat-trick deep into stoppage time (90+2), sealing a remarkable 6–0 win.
With this emphatic victory—Canada’s first in the tournament—they moved to the top of Group B, ahead of Switzerland.
