According to Mundo Deportivo, FC Barcelona will receive the La Liga trophy tomorrow in the Clásico if Hansi Flick’s side secure the title.
A draw against Real Madrid would be enough, and if that happens, Barcelona are expected to lift the trophy immediately after the match at the Spotify Camp Nou.
The plan has already been prepared by the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), which is why president Rafael Louzan will be present in the directors’ box tomorrow evening.
In recent years, the RFEF has generally followed two different approaches when presenting the league trophy.
If a team wins the title away from home, the presentation is usually delayed until the next home match in front of its own supporters.
But when the title is secured at home, the trophy can either be handed over immediately or saved for a later celebration, depending on the circumstances.
Tomorrow’s match falls into the first category, meaning Barcelona could celebrate on the pitch straight after full-time.
There are also recent precedents. Last season, Levante were presented with the La Liga 2 trophy immediately after sealing promotion to the top flight.
Before that, in the 2021/22 season, Real Madrid received the La Liga trophy on the pitch at the Santiago Bernabeu after defeating RCD Espanyol 4-0 and mathematically securing the title with four games remaining.
The trophy Barcelona could lift tomorrow will also be completely new. Last year, the club was allowed to keep the trophy from their 28th league title permanently after a rule change introduced by Louzan after taking over as RFEF president.
Previously, league trophies had to be returned to the RFEF or the jeweller several months later so they could be reused. Clubs were only allowed to keep the trophy permanently if they won three consecutive league titles or five overall titles across different seasons.
