FC Barcelona and Hansi Flick have reached an agreement to extend his contract, tying him to the Club until 30 June 2028 with the option for an additional season.
The German signed his new contract on Monday at the Club's offices with FC Barcelona president Rafa Yuste, director of the Football Area, Anderson Luis de Souza “Deco”, and other members of the sporting commission all present. Also present was president elect Joan Laporta.
Hansi Flick was delighted with the confidence the Club has shown in him saying his goal is to "win more trophies." The German coach noted the stability of the sporting project at Barça and his good relationship with Deco and his team. With the fans, he said, "we have a great atmosphere" before adding that "we will give everything next season to fullfill the dreams we have."
If in his first season Hansi Flick brought hope back to the Barça fans, in the second he confirmed that the excitement was based on a reality. The German coach has built a competitive team faithful to the Club’s identity, capable of dominating the domestic game and retaking its place amongst the European elite. With his contract extension, FC Barcelona assures the continuity of the coach and the project.
Results bear Hansi Flick’s fingerprints. In two seasons as Barça coach he has won five out of a possible eight trophies: two league titles, two Spanish Super Cups and a Copa del Rey. An impressive list of honours with a second consecutive league title recently season with a win over Real Madrid in the Clásico, one for the history books.
Flick’s influence is not only present in results, the coach has also placed his faith in Barça’s home grown talent. As many as 13 players from La Masia have made their debuts under the German as a generation of players have found in Flick a coach ready to give them a chance and exploit their potential.
The combination of youth and experience has been one of the keys to Barça’s success. With a squad packed with emerging talent and a recognisibly attacking style, Flick has managed to build a team capable of competing at every level. In just two season at FC Barcelona, Flick has already written himself into club history with trophies, records and a vision of the future. The German wants to continue this success and bring yet more success to his time as Barça coach.
