FC Barcelona have officially confirmed the signing of Anthony Gordon from Newcastle United in one of the most surprising moves ahead of the World Cup.
The English winger has signed a contract until 2031 after establishing himself as one of the Premier League’s most exciting attacking players during his spell at Newcastle.
Barcelona and Newcastle reached an agreement for Gordon to join the Catalan giants for the next five seasons, with the 25-year-old expected to strengthen the club’s attacking options under the new project at Camp Nou.
From Liverpool Streets to European Stardom
Born on February 24, 2001, in Kirkdale — one of Liverpool’s most football-passionate working-class districts — Gordon began his football journey in the academy of his boyhood club, Liverpool FC.
At the age of 11, he crossed the city divide to join rivals Everton FC, where he quickly emerged as one of the club’s brightest young talents.
Gordon made his senior debut at just 16 years old in the Europa League before appearing in the Premier League at 18. His pace, technical ability, and relentless work ethic soon made him a standout performer for Everton. After four and a half seasons — including a loan spell at Preston North End — he earned a high-profile move to Newcastle United in January 2023.

Following in Legendary Footsteps
At Newcastle, Gordon elevated his game to another level. He played a key role in helping the Magpies compete for Champions League football and quickly became a fan favorite at St James’ Park.
In his breakthrough season, Gordon recorded 12 goals and 10 assists, earning Newcastle’s Player of the Season award and joining a prestigious list of club icons that includes Paul Gascoigne, Alan Shearer, and Andy Cole.
Over recent years, the England international has developed into one of Europe’s most dangerous and hard-working wingers. Although naturally deployed out wide, Gordon is also capable of playing as a centre forward — a versatility Barcelona reportedly values highly.
With his speed, pressing intensity, and attacking creativity, Barcelona believe Gordon could become a key figure in the club’s next generation.
