According to transfer reporter Matteo Moretto (as captured by ESPN), Aston Villa are in talks with the former Bayern Munich midfielder over a permanent move. Goretzka has been a free agent since leaving Bayern Munich at the end of June following nearly eight years with the club.
The 31-year-old made 312 appearances for Bayern Munich, scoring 51 goals and providing 53 assists while winning seven Bundesliga titles and the 2020 UEFA Champions League.
Goretzka had previously been linked with the Chicago Fire, Arsenal, Atlético Madrid, Juventus, AC Milan, and Inter Milan, but none of those possibilities resulted in an agreement.
A move to Aston Villa would give Goretzka his first opportunity to play in the Premier League and provide Unai Emery with an experienced, physical midfielder capable of contributing at both ends of the pitch.
