The Principality Stadium, hosted the English Community Shield clash between Premier League champions Arsenal and FA Cup winners Manchester City. The Gunners delivered a commanding performance, defeating City 3-0 to lift the trophy and send an early warning ahead of the new Premier League campaign.
With Arsenal chasing their 18th Community Shield title and Manchester City aiming to add to their seven triumphs in the competition, both sides entered the match looking to secure an early piece of silverware. However, it was Mikel Arteta’s team who made the perfect start.
It took Arsenal just 23 seconds to break the deadlock. Ricardo Calafiori, pushing forward from defence, showed great awareness and finished clinically to put the London side ahead. As City tried to recover and find a response, Arsenal continued to threaten. In the 28th minute, Martin Ødegaard’s cross was brilliantly headed on by Christos Tzolis into the path of Kai Havertz, who calmly converted to double the advantage.
Arsenal’s defensive organisation was equally impressive. Goalkeeper David Raya and the Gunners’ back line stood firm throughout the first half, denying Manchester City’s attacking threats, including Erling Haaland and Jérémy Doku, to keep a clean sheet before the break.
The surprise continued early in the second half. Tzolis once again turned provider, setting up Martin Ødegaard, who made no mistake in the 48th minute to complete Arsenal’s dominant display and make it 3-0.
Rather than allowing City to build momentum, Arsenal controlled the tempo, managed the game intelligently, and comfortably protected their lead until the final whistle. The victory secured Arsenal’s 18th Community Shield crown and marked a powerful start to the new season — a statement of intent from the Premier League champions.
