Turkiye part ways with Vincenzo Montella after four consecutive defeats

Vincenzo Montella has left his role as Türkiye head coach after three years in charge, with former midfielder Arda Turan emerging as a leading candidate to replace him.

The Turkish Football Federation (TFF) has announced its decision to part ways with Vincenzo Montella, bringing the Italian coach’s three-year tenure with the national team to an end.

The decision comes four days after Türkiye’s defeat to Italy in the Nations League, which marked their fourth consecutive loss in the competition.

In a brief statement, the TFF confirmed the decision, saying: “The Board of Directors of the Turkish Football Federation, at its meeting today, decided not to continue with Mr. Vincenzo Montella as head coach of the national team.”

Montella’s tenure began on a high note, as he guided Türkiye to the quarter-finals of Euro 2024 and secured qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, ending the nation’s 24-year absence from the tournament. However, his spell ultimately ended on a disappointing note, with Türkiye suffering an early elimination at the World Cup before enduring a four-match losing streak in the Nations League.

During his 40 matches in charge, Montella recorded 21 victories, five draws and 14 defeats.

Former Türkiye international Arda Turan has emerged as a strong candidate to take over as the national team’s next head coach.
