Mauro Icardi is currently searching for a new club following his departure from Galatasaray, but the Argentine striker is making headlines for a very different reason.
Icardi has reportedly been handed a precautionary driving ban in Argentina that could remain in place until 2099 after a controversial video surfaced on social media.
The footage shows Icardi driving through a gated residential complex while his partner, China Suárez, appears to unfasten her seat belt, climb through the car window and lean with much of her upper body outside the moving vehicle.
Authorities subsequently determined that Icardi did not have a valid Argentine driver's license at the time. His Italian license was reportedly required to be converted and renewed in Buenos Aires in May 2019.
The Ministry of Transport of the Province of Buenos Aires accused the 33-year-old of gross negligence, stressing that the driver is responsible for the safety of everyone inside the vehicle as well as other road users.
Officials also strongly condemned Suárez's actions, warning that the stunt put her own safety, the safety of the other occupants and that of third parties at risk.
Icardi, however, has publicly disputed the authorities' decision. Taking to social media, the striker questioned why his Italian driver's license had been considered invalid, claiming that it remains valid until 2029.
He also criticized the transport authorities, writing: "It seems quite strange to me that even the Ministry of Transport is dealing with me."
Rather than accepting the measure, Icardi went on to criticize the authorities' work and urged them to focus on improving the roads and carrying out their responsibilities.
